The best and the worst

What is the role of a prison? To punish or to rehabilitate?

These ideas collide in two astounding photo essays.

One is the world’s most humane prison, located in Norway. Here prisoner occupy neat, well-decorated rooms which include en-suite bathrooms with ceramic tiles, mini-fridges and flat-screen TVs.

 The second is Malawi’s most overcrowded prison, where prison cells designed for thirty prisoners now house up to one hundred and sixty.
