Respecting the religious beliefs of prisoners

Two articles have brought the issue of the religious rights of prisoners to the fore.

An article on the Sikh Wire’s website looks at how Singapore’s prison officials reclassify Sikhs so that their hair can be cut, which is against Sikh beliefs. Read more about the controversy.

Britain’s The Daily Mail reports that an urgent investigation has been launched after “Halaal” meat  pies and pasties supplied to the Prison Service were found to contain traces of pork. Islam forbids the consumption of pork products. Read more.
