About 200 magistrates from around the country will receive further training on the Sexual Offences Act in a three-day workshop being held this week in Johannesburg, according to reports in The New Age and Business Day.

The workshop comes amid calls for the reopening of specialised courts dedicated to dealing with sexual offences, following the brutal assault  and murder of teenager Anene Booysen.

The Chief Justice’s spokesperson Lulama Luti said judicial officers would be briefed on developments on the sexual offences courts; case management; best practices in dealing with child witnesses and evidence in sexual offences cases.
